Job Title: Online Outpatient Counsellor

Reports to: Clinical Manager

Wagon Health Solutions is an exciting new branch in an established health care company. Wagon is dedicated to bringing care for substance use disorders to patients across Canada. Using our propriety software, Wagon is an online outpatient clinic that provides online group therapy, individual counselling and recovery coaching. Clients access their online therapy as well as an interactive recovery plan through the Wagon app. This means all Canadians can access high quality, flexible care in their communities.

Wagon Health Solutions is a part of EHN Canada, a nationally recognized behavioural health company that includes several accredited Addiction Treatment Centres and Outpatient clinics and has over 30 years experience serving Canadians from across the country.

Positon Description:

Under the direction of the Clinical Manager, the Online Outpatient Counsellor provides intensive clinical therapeutic services to EHN Canada (Edgewood Health Network) clients and beyond. The Outpatient Addictions Counsellor is responsible for delivering programs, counseling and psycho-education to individuals, families and groups in differing stages of addiction through our Wagon app and our video counselling platform. This position is a full-time remote position, and the candidate will work from home.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide individual and group counselling for people struggling with addiction and related mental health issues by video conference in both English and French.
  • Create tailored recovery plans for each client within the Wagon software
  • Monitor patient progress through the Wagon software and provide outreach in cases of crisis or inactivity
  • Provide formal and informal assessments making summaries in both written and verbal format.
  • Interview and assess clients regarding use of chemicals and/or behaviors to identify whether a substance use disorder may be developing or present.
  • Provide guidance and support to clients in an effort to establish new lifestyles and patterns of thinking and to eliminate the need to use and abuse mood-altering chemicals and/or behaviors.
  • Once clients are stable and following a recovery plan, the counselor will use various therapeutic approaches to help clients address other barriers to recovery, such as health, relationship, work challenges and trauma.
  • Manage a case load, regularly debriefing with the Clinical Director and/or Manager and updating referral agents as required, regarding groups, attendance, and aftercare re-negotiation.
  • Maintain and keep up to date the aftercare attendance sheets and weekly group notes. 
  • Engages in personal professional development, maintains appropriate professional associations, and provides current documentation to the Human Resources Department.
  • Undertakes Quality Assurance activities as assigned.
  • Other duties as assigned. 

Hours:

  • Full time: flex hours; work from home.
  • Will involve working days/evenings/weekends based on client needs and time zones.

  Education:

  • Minimum Bachelor’s degree in Psychology or Social Work or Equivalent.
  • Post Secondary education in Addiction Counselling Diploma or equivalent. 
  • Five or more years of experience working with clients in the addiction and/or mental health field. 
  • Experience with on-line counseling an asset.
